Both EarthTech and Thiess propose to incinerate toxic contaminants at Rhodes.

Residents in the area are opposed to incineration.

Newington has the Silverwater Medical Waste Incinerator on one side and the toxic liquid waste plant on the other. Now more incineration is being added to this sacrifice zone/toxic triangle.

The main reasons are: possibility of release of dioxins from stack emissions, toxicity of dioxin, possibility of volatilization of metals, lack of continuous sampling of stack emissions and health studies which show increased health problems of residents down wind of incinerators.
